Hi Book-clubbers!

Use this space to communicate with the BVN Book Club!

At this site you can:

  • list what galleys you have
  • let others know about great stuff you've read
  • request galleys from other members of book clubs
  • share information about books that you want others to read!

Here are some galleys that we have in the library!

  • Cathy's Book:  This is left over from last year.  Neither Mrs. Snethen or myself have read it, but it might be worth a try!
  • Dirty Work by Julia Bell
  • What They Found: Love on 145th Street by Walter Dean Myers:  This is the sequel to Love on 145th Street which is a collection of short stories.  These are the sequels to each of the short stories from the first book.
  • Glass by Ellen Hopkins:  I just finished this; it's the sequel to Crank and it's as excellent as the first!  Even though we have the galley, this book is already published and we have it in our library!

Here are some great books that I've read recently.  Feel free to add to the list!

  • Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult.  This is traditional Piccoult with the awesome writing and excellent plot twists.  It centers on a young girl that survived a school shooting and her relationship with the shooter.
  • Uglies and Pretties by Scott Westerfeld.  These first 2 books in the series are set in the future where everyone goes through plastic surgery on their 16th birthday to transform from an "ugly" to a "pretty".  Some people don't want the surgery and lots of action and adventure ensue!

I'm in the middle of Deadline by Chris Crutcher  I really like it so far.  What would you do if you knew you only had one year to live????

I just finished it - great book - definitely Crutcher's best! TS

I also just read Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer.  This isn't new (2006) but I've been hearing a lot about it.  An asteroid hits the moon and throws it off its orbit causing all manner of natural disasters and ending "life as we knew it".  Miranda shares the changes in her life through her journal entries.  Interesting what becomes important when life becomes mostly about food, water and warmth. I just heard there's a sequel coming out next year called Dead and Gone - maybe we'll get the galley! TS

HARRY POTTER Hey I just read the first chapter of the secret Harry potter book online, and I thought it was pretty good.  The guy writing it stuck close to J.K's writing style, and stayed true to how i think the characters would be.  It's worth reading if you are a Harry Potter fan just becasue it offers closure to those, like me who wern't ready to let go.  Lauren

Do any of you like graphic novels?  I read Re-Gifters recentlyCover and I really enjoyed it.  It takes a little getting used to reading and looking at the pictures but it was quick and the story was good.  This same publisher has several new gns out - Clubbing, Plain Janes, Confessions of a Blabbermouth so come check them out! TS

Lockhart has a great passion for books and is noticealbe in TDHFLB.  ***** of *****. Best Book Ever. (by Paige)
